Aerogarden Ultra, Harvest, and Sprout
When starting out, one option I would highly suggest would be the aerogarden systems. They are pretty much an all-in-one system that takes most of the guesswork out of the process. It includes the light, the seeds, the nutrients, the container, the air pump, etc. all in a box. I found it useful to start with the aerogarden and then branch out to other systems once I figured out the various elements of the aerogarden. I personally own the Ultra, the older version of the Harvest, and a couple of Sprouts. The Sprout is adorable, but has pretty limited functionality, so while it works, it is as bit too bare bones for my preferences. For example, you can set up different settings for it, but because there is only one button, it is hard to remember how to set everything the way I want it. The Harvest is a good middle-level product which offers easier to use functionality due to its led screen, but still at a reasonable price. The Ultra is on the more expensive end. It is larger than the previous two options, however, and because the light on it can be extended twice as high, it can accommodate more plants. At this point, I mainly use the Harvests and Sprouts for starting plants and transfer them elsewhere after they are established.
Note: the classic Harvest tends to run a bit hotter than the other options, so it heats up the water a bit. So, they tend to work better with “summer” plants. I heard the new Harvests have resolved this issue.
